Hongxi Yin is a Professor of Building Science and Architecture at the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts, Washington University in St. Louis. He is a LEED-certified expert specializing in green neighborhood development and interdisciplinary sustainability research. His work has secured over $1.2 million in grants, including a National Science Foundation grant for thermoelectric concrete building envelopes.
His research interests focus on whole building performance analysis, passive technology application, human health and productivity in built environments, and integrated design methods for sustainability. He explores innovative solutions such as energy-efficient building systems, sustainable urban design strategies, and advanced materials like high-performance concrete veneers and 3D-printed molds. Yin also investigates environmental impact studies of offsite construction methods and climate change mitigation through urban park systems.

Yin’s work includes affiliations with competitive teams like the Solar Decathlon China 2018 (Lotus House) and Sponge City parks initiatives. His presentations address topics such as WAAM (Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing) applications in buildings and outdoor comfort in public spaces.
