Hong Zhuang is a Professor of Economics and Director of the Bureau of Business and Economic Research Unit at the Judd Leighton School of Business and Economics, part of Indiana University South Bend's College of Professional Studies. His research focuses on Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), labor productivity, economic development, and the impacts of foreign aid and conflict on economic outcomes. He has authored numerous studies analyzing FDI's effects on education, wage inequality, and regional growth, particularly in developing countries and the U.S.
Dr. Zhuang's work spans macroeconomic policy, regional economic forecasting, and business environment analysis. Notable areas include examining how FDI influences human capital accumulation in East Asia, evaluating the productivity effects of European monetary union membership, and studying constraints faced by private firms in China. He has also contributed to understanding motherhood wage penalties and the determinants of greenfield FDI in U.S. metropolitan areas.
His community engagement includes partnerships with organizations like the Drucker Institute, St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce, and regional economic partnerships. He directs the Bureau of Business and Economic Research, producing annual economic forecasts for the South Bend and Elkhart regions.
