Hong Yang, MD, PhD is a Professor in the Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Physiology at Meharry Medical College School of Medicine. Her research focuses on cardiovascular biology with particular emphasis on women's health, high-density lipoproteins, endothelial cells, and endoplasmic reticulum stress.
Dr. Yang's research interests center on understanding the molecular mechanisms of atherosclerosis, lipoprotein metabolism, and cholesterol regulation. Her work has significant implications for understanding cardiovascular disease in women, particularly examining how defective isoforms of ApoE induce atherogenesis through unfolded protein responses. She has made important contributions to understanding how catalase overexpression enhances detoxification processes and how Akt signaling regulates cholesterol transport mechanisms.
Her publication record demonstrates consistent research activity in cardiovascular biology over the past decade, with a focus on molecular mechanisms underlying lipoprotein metabolism, endothelial cell function, and cholesterol regulation. Her work often addresses health disparities, particularly in African-American women with diabetes.
Dr. Yang is affiliated with the Center for Women's Health Research at Meharry Medical College, where she contributes to advancing understanding of sex-specific aspects of cardiovascular disease.
