Dr. Hong Ma is a Professor in the Department of Economics at Tsinghua University's School of Economics and Management. He serves as Deputy Director of the Department of Economics and thesis advisor at Schwarzman College, while also holding editorial roles as Associate Editor for Journal of Comparative Economics and China Economic Review.

His research focuses on China's economy, particularly in international trade and economic development. Recent work examines trade wars, VAT rebates allocation, Section 301 tariffs, and exchange rate impacts on exports.
Selected academic achievements include publications in Journal of International Economics, Review of Economics and Statistics, and Economic Journal, with notable studies on FDI liberalization, trade policy uncertainty, and global value chains. He received the National Outstanding Youth Fund (International Trade) and was selected as Changjiang Scholars Program Young Scholar in 2017.
