Hong Liu is a Professor of Physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), affiliated with the MIT Center for Theoretical Physics (CTP-LI). He holds a B.S. from the University of Science and Technology of China (1993) and a Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University (1997). His research focuses on quantum gravity, string theory, and holographic duality, exploring connections between quantum matter systems and gravitational theories. He joined MIT in 2003 and has been recognized with notable awards including the Guggenheim Fellowship (2019), Simons Fellowship (2012), and APS Fellowship (2021).
His work bridges quantum gravity with condensed matter and nuclear physics, using holography to study phenomena like quark-gluon plasma, black hole dynamics, and superfluid turbulence. His contributions include groundbreaking studies in holographic thermalization and vortex liquids, published in leading journals and books.
