Daniel Harlow is the Jerrold R. Zacharias Career Development Associate Professor of Physics at MIT. His research focuses on quantum gravity, quantum field theory, and their intersection with black hole physics and quantum information theory. He earned his BA from Columbia University (2006) and PhD from Stanford University (2012), with postdoctoral work at Princeton and Harvard before joining MIT in 2017. His work bridges quantum mechanics and gravity, particularly using quantum error correction to explore the AdS/CFT correspondence.
Research Interests: Combining quantum mechanics and gravity, quantum error correction in holography, structure of quantum field theory, and classical gravity challenges. Notable contributions include linking AdS/CFT to quantum error correction codes and analyzing black hole information paradoxes.
Awards: Packard Fellow (2020), New Horizons in Physics Prize (2019), Sloan Fellowship (2019), DOE Quantum Information Science Award (2018), and Simons Foundation Collaboration leadership (2017).
Teaching: Developed advanced courses on quantum field theory, electromagnetism, and black hole/QI connections.
Labs/Teams: Associated with MIT's Center for Theoretical Physics (CTP-LI). Active in the 'It from Qubit' collaboration.
