Holly Wright is an archaeologist and digital heritage specialist affiliated with the University of York through the Department of Archaeology and the Archaeology Data Service (ADS). Her career bridges the arts, archaeology, and computing, with a focus on digital data infrastructures and semantic technologies.

Her research explores the intersection of digital archaeology and heritage science, particularly how tools like the Semantic Web, Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG), and automated image recognition can enhance archaeological data preservation and accessibility. She has contributed to major projects such as SEADDA, ARIADNEplus, SSHOC, and ArchAIDE, which aim to standardise and democratise archaeological data practices across Europe and beyond.
Holly’s publications reflect her expertise in digital visualisation, data infrastructures, and technology-driven archaeological methods. Recent work includes applications of NLP in archaeology and addressing the digital divide in heritage research. Her contributions to the field have been recognised through the EU Marie Curie CHIRON fellowship, which supported her PhD research.

Holly currently serves as the International Projects Manager for the Archaeology Data Service, where she leverages her administrative and research skills to support large-scale digital heritage initiatives. She is also affiliated with the Centre for Digital Heritage and has co-led projects like AUTOMATA and Transforming data Re-use in ARCHaeology as a Principal Investigator.
