Holly Schmies

Holly Schmies is an Associate Professor and Director of the M.S. in Athletic Training (MSAT) program at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, affiliated with the School of Health Sciences and Wellness. With over two decades of experience, she specializes in athletic training education, injury prevention, and rehabilitation. Her career has been dedicated to advancing clinical practices in concussion prevention and developing pedagogical strategies for health sciences education.

Her research focuses on optimizing teaching and learning in athletic training, particularly through evidence-based interventions for exertional heat illness and spinal injury evaluation. She has contributed to the accreditation and sustained success of UWSP’s athletic training program since 2003.

Active in professional service, Schmies co-coordinates the SLASH/PLAY program, serves on UWSP’s Institutional Review Board, and holds leadership roles in the Wisconsin Athletic Trainers’ Association. She has taught courses including Therapeutic Interventions of Injury and Medical Aspects of Injury and Illness.
