Dr. Missy Fraser serves as Assistant Professor and MSAT Coordinator of Clinical Education at Augustana University's School of Health Professions Education, joining the institution in July 2023. She teaches injury evaluation, rehabilitation, and neuroscience courses while coordinating the Master of Athletic Training program.
Her educational background includes:
- Ph.D. in Human Movement Science, Emphasis in Sport-Related Concussion (2016), University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
- M.S. in Kinesiology (2003), Pennsylvania State University
- B.S. in Psychology and Exercise & Sport Science, Emphasis in Athletic Training (1999), University of Iowa
As a neuroscientist and certified athletic trainer (LAT, ATC) with personal experience as a TBI survivor, her research investigates concussion assessment methodologies, head impact biomechanics, safe play protocols, and the intersection of SRC history with emotion dysregulation. Her clinical background directly informs her translational approach to improving athlete care.
Dr. Fraser actively integrates her dual expertise in neuroscience and athletic training through the MSAT program's clinical education framework. Outside academia, she enjoys outdoor activities (particularly during South Dakota summers), physical fitness, live music, and cooking/BBQing with family.
