Holly Pinheiro, Jr. is an Assistant Professor of History at Furman University, joining in 2021. His academic career includes a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Alabama and prior teaching at Augusta University. He holds a Ph.D. and M.A. from the University of Iowa and a B.A. from the University of Central Florida, with an associate degree from Valencia College. His research examines intersections of race, gender, and class in military contexts from 1850–1930s, challenging dominant narratives about African American veterans' experiences.
Research focuses on how military service created long-term economic and social instability for Black families, counter to mainstream patriotic discourses. His work has been published in international journals and edited volumes.
