Holly Hendry is a 0.4 part-time Lecturer in Fine Art Sculpture at the Slade School of Fine Art, University College London, where she mentors MA/MFA students. An active contemporary artist based in London, her work features in major public collections including the Arts Council, British Council, and Government Art Collections.
Her educational background includes:
- BA Fine Art, The Slade School of Fine Art (2013)
- MA Sculpture, Royal College of Art, London (2016)
Hendry's practice explores contemporary sculpture through themes of emptiness, edges, flatness, decay, and anatomical representations. She creates kinetic installations using industrial materials like silicone, plaster, steel, and found objects to investigate the body's relationship with machinery, sustainability, and urban infrastructure. Her work frequently employs cross-sectional cuts, material recombination, and slapstick aesthetics to reveal hidden systems and bodily vulnerabilities.
Recent projects demonstrate a trajectory toward large-scale public commissions engaging with environmental systems and urban history. Works like Sottobosco (2024) and Invertebrate (2021) integrate architectural spaces with organic metaphors, while kinetic pieces such as Slacker explore maintenance cycles and mechanized emotions. Her material palette evolves from medical diagrams to archaeological debris, reflecting persistent interests in transformation and impermanence.
Hendry collaborates with institutions globally through major commissions including SCAD Museum of Art (2024), Hayward Gallery (2024), De La Warr Pavilion (2021), and Selfridges (2018-2019). These projects involve partnerships with engineers, medical specialists, and students, demonstrating her commitment to cross-disciplinary dialogue. As an educator, she integrates her studio practice with teaching, guiding graduate students in material experimentation and spatial intervention.
