Holger Gies

Prof. Dr. Holger Gies is a full Professor and Chair for Quantum Theory at the Institute of Theoretical Physics, Friedrich Schiller University Jena. He serves as a scientific member of the Helmholtz Institute Jena and holds leadership positions as spokesperson for both the DFG Research Training Group RTG 252 (focused on quantum and gravitational field theory) and the DFG Research Unit FOR 2783 (investigating the quantum vacuum).

His research spans multiple advanced areas of theoretical physics with emphasis on Quantum field theory and Renormalization group methods. Key research domains include Strongly coupled gauge theories, Asymptotic Safety, Worldline formalism, Casimir effect, and Ultracold atom gases. His work integrates theoretical frameworks with practical applications in quantum field theory with background fields and worldline numerics.
