Holden Thorp is a Professor of Chemistry at George Washington University's Columbian College of Arts & Sciences and Editor-in-Chief of the Science family of journals at AAAS. His research focuses on drug development, bioinorganic chemistry, and science policy. He co-founded Viamet Pharmaceuticals, which produced VIVJOA for chronic yeast infections. Thorp advocates for research integrity, publishing ethics, and neurodiversity in STEM. He teaches a Dean’s Seminar on science policy and has authored books on higher education reform, including Engines of Innovation and Our Higher Calling.
Dr. Thorp holds honorary degrees from Hofstra University and North Carolina Wesleyan College, and has been honored as a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, National Academy of Inventors, and AAAS. He previously served as Provost of Washington University in St. Louis (2013–2019) and received GW's 2021 Caress Award for Chemistry.
