Kenneth E. Thorpe is the Robert W. Woodruff Professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management at Emory University, one of 11 presidentially appointed scholar-chairs. He previously chaired the department for 22 years, overseeing the development of the MSPH and PhD programs in Health Services Research and Health Policy. His academic career includes roles at Tulane University, University of North Carolina, Harvard University, and Columbia University. He served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Health Policy in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (1993–1995), coordinating financial estimates for President Clinton’s healthcare reform proposals.
