Hiroya Miura is Associate Professor of Music at Bates College, teaching music theory/composition and directing the college orchestra. As a composer-performer, his work integrates Japanese traditional instruments with contemporary techniques, exploring connections between cultural traditions and modern expression.
Creative Work: Compositions performed internationally at venues including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and Tokyo Opera City. Recent works include micro-opera 'Sharaku Unframed' and shakuhachi concerto 'Galactic Monarchs'.
Leadership: Serves as Artistic Director of Columbia University's IMJS/Japanese Cultural Heritage Initiatives and Advisory Board member for Composers Conference.
