Dr. Hill Craddock is the UC Foundation Davenport Professor of Biology at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC). He specializes in the restoration of the American chestnut (Castanea dentata) in Appalachian forests and developing commercial chestnut industries. His research focuses on blight resistance breeding, Phytophthora root rot resistance, hypovirulence-based biological control, and germplasm conservation.
Education:
- PhD in Pomology (Conservation of Plant Genetic Resources), University of Turin, Italy (1992)
- MS in Horticulture, Oregon State University (1987)
- BA in Fine Arts and Biology, Indiana University (1983)
Research: Current projects include breeding for blight resistance, gall wasp resistance, and evaluating chestnut cultivars. His work is supported by grants from the Summerfield Johnston Endowment, The American Chestnut Foundation, and Dollywood.

Teaching: Teaches courses in general biology, economic botany, dendrology, and mycology. Currently instructing BIOL 4998R (Individual Studies), BIOL 4150 (Mycology), and ESC 5999R (Thesis).
Service: Serves on UTC's Curriculum and Graduate committees, chairs the Campus Landscape Committee, and is President of The American Chestnut Foundation's Tennessee Chapter.
