Dr. Hilde Schuiringa serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Developmental Psychology at Utrecht University's Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences, a position she has held since 2017. Her work bridges rigorous academic research with practical clinical applications in child and adolescent psychology.
Her academic credentials include:
- PhD in Developmental Psychology from Utrecht University (2014)
- Health Sciences degree (Public Health: Health Promotion and Education) from Maastricht University
Dr. Schuiringa's research examines behavioral problems in children through dual lenses: environmental factors (parenting, family dynamics, parent-child relationships) and child-specific factors (social information processing, executive functions, emotion regulation, IQ/LVB). She investigates personality pathology, negative life events, and developmental tasks in clinical adolescent samples through the APOLO and APOLO-kids projects, with particular focus on mild to borderline intellectual disabilities and therapist-client alliance dynamics.
Her scientific recognition includes:
- Dynamics of Youth invigoration grant (2020) for research on aggressive behavior and social information processing using interactive virtual reality with adolescent boys
- COVID-19 Fonds Faculteit Sociale Wetenschappen award (2020)
As an educator, she coordinates the Master's program in Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology while teaching across Bachelor's and Master's psychology programs. She provides clinical supervision at Reinier van Arkel mental health institution and through Utrecht University's post-master's Clinical Psychologist program, emphasizing evidence-based practice.
Her research operates within Utrecht University's Dynamics of Youth (DoY) initiative, an interdisciplinary hub advancing developmental science through collaborative projects addressing contemporary challenges in child and adolescent mental health.
