Hilary Tierney is an Associate Professor at the Department of Applied Social Studies, Maynooth University, within the Faculty of Social Sciences. She specializes in youth work and community work, focusing on professional supervision, reflective practice, and social justice. Her research emphasizes participatory and narrative methodologies, contributing to real-world impacts in youth work policies and education.
Research Interests: Global Youth Work, Human Rights, Sustainable Development, Professional Practice, and Ethical Education.
- Co-Director of the Centre for Youth Research and Development (CYRD).
- Member of the Pool of European Youth Researchers (PEYR) Advisory Group.
- Lead on multiple EU-funded projects, including the Youth Work eLearning Partnership (YWeLP).
Key Projects include the MEASURING IMPACT OF YOUTH ORGANISATIONS (MIYO) and collaborations with NYCI and Léargas on international youth work curricula.
Awards include the MU Teaching Award (2022) and two CTL Fellowships (2013, 2010).
