Hidayatullah G. Munshi is the Ann Lurie Professor of Hematology and Oncology and serves as Chief of the Division of Hematology and Oncology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. His primary affiliation is with the Department of Medicine, specializing in Hematology and Oncology. He is also affiliated with the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center, Center for Human Immunobiology, and Northwestern University Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (NUCATS).
Dr. Munshi's research focuses on pancreatic cancer therapeutics, cancer biology, and translational oncology. His work explores novel drug combinations, molecular targets for cancer treatment, and the interplay between chemotherapy response and cellular signaling pathways. Recent studies highlight investigations into calcium channel blockers' role in enhancing chemotherapy efficacy and the identification of G alpha 13 protein as a potential therapeutic target.
In 2023, his team demonstrated that a combination therapy extended survival in pancreatic cancer mouse models and identified risks of liver toxicity from emerging cancer drugs when combined with high-fat diets. He has also contributed to the development of second-line therapies for advanced cancers.
- Awards & Affiliations: Elected to the Association of American Physicians (AAP) and American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI) in 2023.
- Grants & Labs: Leads research programs at the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center focusing on preclinical oncology and clinical translation.
