Devalingam Mahalingam is a Professor in the Department of Medicine with a specialization in Hematology and Oncology at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine. He is affiliated with the Robert H Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center and practices at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. His office is located at the Robert H Lurie Medical Research Center in Chicago, Illinois.
Dr. Mahalingam received his medical education with an MBBChBAO from the National University of Ireland in 2000, followed by a PhD from the same institution in 2009. His postgraduate training includes residency in Medicine at the Royal College of Physicians, Ireland (2003), and fellowships in Medical Oncology at both the Royal College of Physicians, Ireland and the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio (2009). He is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Dr. Mahalingam's research focuses on advancing cancer therapeutics through innovative clinical trials and molecular analysis. His work spans multiple cancer types including colorectal, pancreatic, gastroesophageal, and other solid tumors. He investigates novel treatment approaches including targeted therapies, immunotherapies, and drug combinations to overcome treatment resistance. His research often examines biomarkers that predict treatment response, aiming to personalize cancer therapy for improved patient outcomes.
His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on translational research, particularly examining molecular mechanisms of treatment response, novel drug combinations, and biomarker-driven therapeutic approaches across various cancer types.
Dr. Mahalingam serves as Editor for Cancers journal and Associate Editor for Advances Journal since 2020. He leads multiple active clinical trials investigating new treatments for various cancers, including several phase I/II studies evaluating novel drug combinations and targeted therapies. His industry collaborations include consulting and advisory roles with Actuate Therapeutics, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Exelixis, and Qurient.
At the Robert H Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center, Dr. Mahalingam is actively involved in both clinical care and research initiatives, contributing to the center's mission of advancing cancer treatment through scientific discovery and innovative clinical approaches.
