Hesham H. Ali is a Professor of Computer Science and Director of the Bioinformatics Core Facility at the University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO) College of Information Science & Technology. He previously served as the Lee and Wilma Seemann Distinguished Dean of the College from 2006 to 2021, contributing to academic leadership and research growth.
- Research Interests: Biomedical Informatics, Sensor Networks, Graph Theory, Design and Analysis of Algorithms, Data Analytics, Machine Learning, Mobile Computing, Distributed Systems, Wireless Networks, Parallel Computing, Fault-Tolerant Networks, VLSI Design, Scheduling, and Algorithmic Graph Theory.
- Current Projects: Developing computational approaches to model complex biomedical systems and analyze large biological/health datasets (infectious diseases, microbiome, aging research) and secure wireless infrastructure for personalized healthcare.
His work has been funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), National Institutes of Health (NIH), and Nebraska Research Initiative (NRI). He has also led outreach initiatives like Women in IT, IT education programs, and summer internship camps.
