Professor Herschel Kruger serves as the Herschel Kruger Chair and Professor of Theatre at Carthage College. He joined the faculty in 2005 and founded the New Play Initiative in 2008-09, commissioning original works annually. He has directed numerous award-winning plays, including 'Up and Away' (2019 Edinburgh Festival Fringe), 'Ghost Bike' (2013 KCACTF awards), and 'Honest' (2010 awards). In 2024, he received the KCACTF Gold Medallion for exceptional contributions to theatre education.
Education: MFA in Acting from the University of Illinois, BA in Theatre Communication from Cardinal Stritch University, and training at the National Shakespeare Conservatory. He has led 10 J-Term study tours to locations including Greece, NYC, Scotland, and Germany.
His research interests focus on directing, acting pedagogy, and innovative theatre production. Beyond Carthage, he has worked as an actor and director in New York, Illinois, Michigan, and Wisconsin.
