Dr. Henry Vischer is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, within the Faculty of Science. He holds a dual appointment at AIMMS (Amsterdam Institute for Molecules, Medicines and Systems). His research focuses on molecular GPCR pharmacology, particularly biased signaling, receptor residence time, and multiplex biosensor assays. He has been awarded grants including NWO Veni (2005), NGI Horizon Breakthrough (2008), and NWO ECHO (2012). Vischer has supervised 6 PhD theses and teaches courses like Advanced Pharmacology and Practicum Moleculaire Farmacologie.
Education: BSc Biology from Utrecht University, followed by PhD research (2003) on gonadotropin-GPCR interactions at Utrecht University. Postdoctoral work (2003-2008) at VU Amsterdam on viral chemokine receptors. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, contributing to health-related research.
Research Interests: GPCRs, ligand-receptor interactions, optogenetic control of adrenergic receptors, histamine receptor pharmacology, and assay development. Over 120 publications include high-impact studies on photoswitchable ligands and receptor signaling mechanisms. Awards include the Organon Research Prize for Endocrinology (2003).
