Dr. Henry L Spelman is an Assistant Professor in Classics at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow of Christ's College. His career includes prior fellowships as the WHD Rouse Junior Research Fellow at Christ’s College and the Leventhesis Research Fellow in Ancient Greek at Merton College, Oxford. He holds a Morehead Scholarship from the University of North Carolina and a Rhodes Scholarship from Oxford University.
His research focuses on Greek and Latin literature, ancient history, and classical philosophy. He is currently on Leverhulme Trust-funded research leave from October 2025 to October 2027. He teaches within the Faculty of Classics and supervises PhD students. Recent professional activities include organizing events such as the 'Bridging Binaries LGBTQ+ Tour' and contributing to the St John's College Newell Lecture series on classical themes.
He is affiliated with the University’s teaching staff and actively involved in research clusters including classical art/archaeology and ancient philosophy. No personal awards are listed, though his academic contributions are reflected in his institutional roles and fellowships.
