Henry Dean is a Professor of Foundation Studies at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), serving since 1999. Holding an M.F.A. in painting from SCAD and a B.A. in fine arts and geography from the University of St. Andrews, he specializes in art education and environmental art. His work bridges teaching methodologies with creative practice, emphasizing integrative learning and site-specific installations.
Research interests include environmental art, sculpture, and pedagogical strategies for fostering creativity. His exhibitions explore ecological themes and community engagement, such as Margins (2018 solo show) and Sluice (2015 site-specific installation). He has been recognized through residencies at Arizona State University (2011), The Low Country Institute (2004), and multiple awards including the New Jersey New Arts in Education Award (1999).
Dean has presented widely on art education, including lectures like "The Art of the Working Sketch" (2011 FATE Biennial) and "Swimming in the Current" (2017). Collaborations include the Creative Force Artists Collective’s Seeing Sounds (2008), blending sculpture, installation, and performance.
