Dr. Henrique Meissner is an Honorary Research Fellow at the Department of Music, University of Sheffield. His research focuses on music psychology in education, particularly young musicians’ expressive performance and learning development. He holds a Master’s (Distinction) and PhD from the University of Sheffield, where his doctoral work explored teaching expressive performance using mixed methods, supported by an AHRC scholarship. Currently, he tutors at the Prins Claus Conservatorium in Groningen, Netherlands, and edits a book applying music psychological findings to education.
Education: Master’s (2011) and PhD (2018) in Music Psychology in Education from the University of Sheffield.
Research Interests: Expressive music performance, creative music making, instrumental teaching strategies, and action research methodologies. He employs participatory action research and video-stimulated recall interviews, and has presented at international conferences like the European Association for Music in Schools (EAS).
Publications include studies on children’s expressive performance learning and teachers’ instructional strategies. His work bridges music psychology theory with practical pedagogical applications in education.
