Henrique Meissner is a Lecturer and Researcher at the Prince Claus Conservatoire, part of Hanze University of Applied Sciences Groningen, and affiliated with the Music in Context Research Centre. She holds a PhD in Music Psychology from The University of Sheffield, focusing on young musicians' expressive performance development. Her work bridges music education, artistic research, and accessibility, particularly for hearing-impaired individuals using Cochlear Implants (CI).
Education: Began recorder studies at Utrecht Conservatoire, followed by a PhD (2012-2018) at The University of Sheffield, awarded in 2019. Current roles include Course Leader for Practice-Based Research in the Master of Music program at Prince Claus Conservatoire.
Research interests center on expressive performance pedagogy, socially engaged artistic research (e.g., SEARiM project), and the GAME method—an innovative piano-teaching approach for CI-users. This method aims to improve speech perception through music practice, requiring specialized teacher training. Collaborations include work with Robert Harris on GAME's educational design.
Recent projects include the SEARiM initiative (2022–present) exploring socially engaged music research and a participatory action research project on GAME's educational framework. Publications focus on teaching strategies, student experiences, and accessibility in music education.
