معرفی
Henrik Kylin is a Professor of Environmental Chemistry at Linköping University's Department of Theme, specializing in Theme Environmental Change. His work spans global, regional, and local environmental chemistry and toxicology, with significant fieldwork conducted in both Arctic and Antarctic regions. He has maintained extensive international research collaborations across Africa, Southeast Asia, Central America, Canada, Norway, Russia, the USA, the Netherlands, and Chile.
- Professor, Environmental Chemistry, Theme Environmental Change, Linköping University (2011-present)
- Professor, Environmental Chemistry, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (2005-2011, part-time 2005-2009)
- Senior Researcher, Norwegian Institute for Air Research, Polar Environment Centre (1999)
- PhD in Environmental Chemistry, Stockholm University (1994)
Professor Kylin's research interests focus on understanding chemical behavior in the environment and the consequences of environmental toxins for human health and ecosystems. His work spans analytical chemistry, physicochemical investigations of pollutants, and toxicological studies. He has particular expertise in global pollutant transport mechanisms, especially to polar regions, pesticide analysis, and environmental issues in developing countries. His research approach integrates chemistry and biology to fully understand environmental problems, resulting in publications on diverse organism groups including birds, plants, slime molds, and tardigrades.
His recent publications demonstrate his interdisciplinary approach, ranging from marine debris studies in the Indian Ocean to cetacean behavior and slime mold biology. His 2016 research on flip-flop accumulation on St. Brandon's atoll revealed nearly 30,000 plastic items on remote beaches despite minimal human presence, documenting how ocean currents transport debris across vast distances. His current research examines disinfection by-products in drinking water that may be toxic and carcinogenic.
- Extraordinary Professor, North-West University, South Africa
- Swedish chief scientist during Oden Southern Ocean expedition 2007/2008
- Honorary Member, African Network for Chemical Analysis of Pesticides (2007)
- Royal Swedish Academy of Forestry and Agriculture's award for educational contributions (2002)
- Civilingenjörsförbundets miljöpris (1996, 2000)
Professor Kylin has supervised 19 doctoral students, 12 of whom come from developing countries. He frequently assesses research applications and job appointments in developing nations and serves on the scientific reference group for International Programmes in Chemical Sciences. His work with malaria control has presented him with significant ethical challenges regarding balancing disease prevention with environmental protection. He has appeared in documentaries about Lake Vättern's pollution and has conducted field research worldwide, including experiences being mistaken for an imam in Zanzibar and interacting with polar bears on Wrangel Island.
