Henri Burgers is an Associate Professor and Discipline Convenor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at the UQ Business School, part of The University of Queensland. He holds a PhD from RSM Erasmus University and previously worked at Queensland University of Technology. His research focuses on corporate entrepreneurship, organizational capabilities, and institutional contexts, particularly in natural resources industries. He has secured over 1 million AUD in ARC grants and publishes in top journals like Strategic Management Journal and Journal of Business Venturing.
Teaching and educational contributions include developing entrepreneurship-focused curricula and being awarded Senior Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy. He serves on editorial boards for Journal of Business Venturing and Group and Organization Management.
Research interests include open innovation governance, spinoff network dynamics, and resource mobilization in fragile contexts. His work spans industries like oil & gas, mining, and public services, emphasizing practical applications with firms and governments globally.
Key grants include ARC-funded projects improving innovation in natural resources sectors. His recent publications (2022–2024) explore external innovation contests, spinoff network imprinting, and individual innovation in energy sectors. He advises on strategic leadership in business ecosystems and has presented at major conferences like the Academy of Management and Strategic Management Society.
