Henning Zülch serves as Professor and Head of the Department of Finance, Accounting & Corporate Governance at HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management since 2006, leading research at the intersection of financial reporting, sustainability, and corporate governance. His academic foundation includes a professorship in Business Administration from Technische Universität Clausthal (2003-2006), doctoral studies in Accounting & Auditing at Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster (1998-2002), and a Diplom-Kaufmann in Business Administration from the same institution (1993-1998).
His research program critically examines regulatory shifts in sustainability reporting, with particular focus on EU frameworks including the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR) and Non-Financial Reporting Directive (NFRD). Key investigations explore how Scope 3 emissions quantification affects carbon financial performance within Science-Based Targets Initiative contexts, the relationship between sustainability metrics and financial distress risk in European markets, and institutional investor information requirements under evolving regulatory landscapes. His work consistently bridges theoretical accounting frameworks with practical corporate implementation challenges.
Recent publications (2022-2025) reveal a pronounced scholarly trajectory toward empirical analysis of regulatory impacts, demonstrating increasing methodological sophistication in disentangling complex emission performance variables and governance effects. His collaborative research across Business Strategy and the Environment, Journal of Applied Accounting Research, and Corporate Communications journals establishes clear leadership in European sustainability accounting discourse. Current work extends into emerging domains including executive digital communication strategies on professional networks and financial investor behavior in specialized sectors like football management.
