Henk Bruin is a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Vienna, affiliated with the Faculty of Mathematics. He coordinates the Erasmus program for the department and serves as an Associate Editor for Monatshefte für Mathematik. His research focuses on Ergodic Theory and Dynamical Systems, with specific interests in measure theory, stochastic processes, and symbolic dynamics.
He has taught courses such as Advanced Measure Theory, Probability Theory, and Ergodic Theory Working Groups since 2012. Recent courses (Winter 2025/26) include Advanced Measure Theory and a Proseminar, while Summer 2025 features Probability Theory and Principles of Statistics. His work connects to geometric and ergodic properties of flows, inverse limit spaces, and applications in number theory.
- Organized workshops at the Erwin Schrödinger Institute and Lorentz Center
- Co-led FWF projects SAIL (2013-2016) and FLOWS (2019-2022)
- Collaborated on topics like substitutions and tiling spaces, cellular automata, and holomorphic dynamics
