Helle Vrønning Dam is a Professor of Interpreting and Translation Studies at Aarhus University, where she directs the master’s program in conference interpreting and is a founding member of the research program Communication in International Business and the Professions. She also holds an Adjunct Professor position at Ilisimatusarfik, University of Greenland. Her professional roles include former head of department and vice dean at the former Aarhus School of Business, and she currently serves on the Board of Education for the sign-language and speech-to-text interpreting program at Copenhagen University College, as well as representing Aarhus University in CIUTI.
Helle V. Dam holds a PhD and has extensive academic credentials in translation and interpreting studies.
Her research focuses on interpreting, translation studies, and business communication, with particular emphasis on sociological, linguistic, and cognitive aspects of these fields. She explores translator status, visibility in research, and emic perspectives on translator competence, contributing to both theoretical and applied dimensions of translation studies.
She received the Hedorf Foundation’s national prize in 2014 for excellence in research on international business communication and languages.
Her involvement in projects includes leading initiatives such as “Interpreting and co-creative mediation processes in Greenlandic courts of law” (2024–2025) and the “EFFORT” project (2019–2023), which developed a European Framework of Reference in Translation. She also oversees the Master in Conference Interpreting program at Aarhus University (2023–2024).
She is affiliated with CIUTI and contributes to research programs in international business communication and the professions.
