Professor Krunke's research examines critical challenges to constitutional democracy through multiple lenses: constitutional identity formation in Nordic contexts, democratic erosion during security crises, digitalization's impact on public decision-making, and transnational solidarity frameworks. Her work connects theoretical constitutional scholarship with practical governance challenges, particularly regarding EU integration crises, demographic pressures on welfare systems, and evolving judicial reasoning in Nordic supreme courts. She investigates how national constitutional identities interact with supranational legal orders while maintaining democratic legitimacy.
Her publications reveal consistent focus on constitutional adaptation mechanisms in response to contemporary pressures, with increasing attention to digital governance challenges and climate change constitutional dimensions in recent years. The research demonstrates strong interdisciplinary connections between legal theory, political science, and social policy analysis.
Professor Krunke's scholarly recognition includes:
- Honorary Doctorate from Lund University (2023)
- Continuous inclusion in 'Who's Who' directories since 2010
- Selection as 'Top 100 Professional 2010'
- Extensive peer review activities for Oxford University Press and leading law journals
She supervises numerous PhD candidates while leading major collaborative research initiatives including Horizon Europe's ENCODE project on emotional dimensions of politics, Horizon2020's DEMOS project on populism and democratic efficacy, and the NOS-HS-funded CONNOR 2030 network on Nordic constitutional challenges. Professor Krunke also heads the Faculty of Law's PhD School and coordinates multiple Jean Monet Networks examining European Union futures.
Her leadership extends to the Nordic ConReason project analyzing judicial reasoning across Nordic supreme courts and active participation in global constitutional law networks through the IACL. Professor Krunke maintains significant influence through international assessment committees and advisory roles in European legal institutions.
