Hella de Haas

Hella de Haas is a Researcher at the Institute of Social Sciences (Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf), affiliated with the Chair of Communication and Media Studies I (KMW I) since 2021. Her work focuses on science communication, gender studies in communication science, and qualitative methods, particularly within the DFG-funded project "Zwei Seiten derselben Medaille: Öffentliches Vertrauen in Wissenschaft und Vertrauen der Wissenschaftler in Öffentlichkeit" (Public Trust in Science and Scientists' Trust in the Public).

Research Interests span interdisciplinary analyses of science communication dynamics, gender representations in media, and qualitative methodological frameworks. Recent work examines trust erosion during the Covid-19 pandemic and the media portrayal of scientists, with a focus on public engagement challenges.

Presentations highlight collaborations with Kohler and Marcinkowski at major conferences including the DGPuK Annual Meeting, IAMCR Conference, and PCST Network Biannual Conference. Her 2019 lecture at Humboldt University Berlin critically addressed gender biases in academic narratives.
