Dr. Helene Robinson is an Associate Professor in the College of Education at the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee. She serves as director of the Critical, Creative, and Design Thinking program and Arts Integration Coordinator, with a focus on inclusive education for marginalized learners. Prior to academia, she worked as a special education teacher for 14 years.
- Education: EdD in Educational Leadership (Curriculum & Instruction) from Liberty University; EdS in Early Childhood Special Education (ESOL emphasis) from University of Miami; MS in Emotional Handicaps; BS in Physical Education.
Her research explores arts integration, special education, and culturally responsive teaching, with publications addressing inclusive classrooms, social/emotional development, and teacher quality indicators for diverse learners. Recent projects include Frameworks and Methodologies for Understanding Arts Integration (2019) and the SMART I AM approach for inclusive pedagogy (2018).
She led the Untie the Right Brain grant ($500,000 for arts integration in high-needs districts) and contributed to initiatives like project SAIL (middle school arts integration) and project EAGLE (pre-K arts education). Her work has earned recognition including the PAInT Fellowship (2013-14) and USFSM Community Engagement Award (2019).
Dr. Robinson has mentored undergraduate researchers and collaborated across colleges to develop interdisciplinary arts integration courses. Her publications analyze pedagogical frameworks, teacher training practices, and educational equity for students with disabilities.
