Helene Buzelin serves as Professor in the Department of Linguistics and Translation at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, University of Montreal, holding her office in Pavillon Lionel-Groulx (Room C-9144). She teaches core courses including TRA2505: Translation and Adaptation across undergraduate Linguistics and Translation programs.
Her research pioneers sociological and anthropological approaches to translation, specializing in Caribbean literary translation, sociolect adaptation, and postcolonial representation dynamics. Current investigations examine editorial decision-making processes, textbook translation for higher education, and material cultures of translation across transnational contexts. She actively explores how linguistic hybridity and colonial legacies manifest in translated texts.
Professor Buzelin directs multiple SSHRC-funded projects including Bruno Latour and Translation (2024-2028) and Social Construction of Knowledge in American University Textbooks (2017-2024). Her mentorship spans six graduate theses from 2007-2015 covering Arab women's translation dynamics, Franco-Quebec co-publication systems, and Hispanic-American literary translation in Quebec.
