معرفی
Dr. Helena Schuch is a Senior Research Fellow at the School of Dentistry, University of Queensland. She holds a PhD in Oral Epidemiology from the University of Adelaide (2018). Her research focuses on oral health inequalities, life course epidemiology, causal inference methods, and machine learning applications in oral health. She contributes to the Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology editorial board.
Education:
- Doctor of Philosophy (Oral Epidemiology), University of Adelaide (2018)
- Master of Science in Dentistry (MScDent)
- Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS)
Research Interests: Dr. Schuch’s work addresses social epidemiology, particularly how socioeconomic factors and life trajectories influence oral health outcomes. She employs causal inference techniques and machine learning to improve predictive modeling in dental healthcare. Her studies often explore equity issues, such as racial and gender disparities in oral care access and outcomes.
Articles Trends: Her recent publications emphasize machine learning’s role in predicting oral health disparities (e.g., fairness in dental care algorithms) and the impact of social determinants (e.g., maternal health, economic mobility) on oral conditions. She also investigates systemic inequalities in dental research and care across populations, including Indigenous communities in Brazil, New Zealand, and Australia.
Grants and Funding:
- 2024-2026: Prevalence and determinants of dentine hypersensitivity in the Australian population (Haleon Australia Pty Ltd)
- 2023-2026: Oral Health in Aged Care: Addressing Oral Health Inequity (NHMRC Mission)
Supervision and Teams: She currently advises PhD and master’s students on topics like dental-systemic interfaces in intensive care and integrated oral care models for aged populations. Collaborations include researchers in epidemiology, machine learning, and public health.
