Helena KARJALAINEN is an Associate Professor of Intercultural Management at EM Normandie since 2008. She holds a PhD in Modern Literature from Université Stendhal (Grenoble 3) and a joint PhD in Management Science from Université de Metz and Université Trier (Germany). Her HDR in Management Science from University of Paris-Est (2019) focuses on multicultural team management.
Her research interests include global HRM, organizational behavior, and cultural identity dynamics. She explores leadership in diverse environments, with a focus on cross-cultural competencies and managerial identities in contexts like Tunisia and Japan. Key contributions include studies on invisible disabilities in workplaces, historical auditing practices, and gender dynamics in African harbors.
Her work spans over 20 peer-reviewed articles, books, and case studies. Notable contributions include analyses of Japanese subsidiaries in Europe, Tunisian SME leadership, and the role of guanxi networks in Chinese-French business interactions.
She actively collaborates with institutions like the Atlas-AFMI and EURAM, presenting at international conferences. Her pedagogical efforts include case development for cross-cultural management education, emphasizing practical applications of theoretical frameworks.
