Helena Budde is a Researcher in the Pragmatics Department at the Leibniz Institute for the German Language (IDS) in Mannheim, Germany. She is concurrently pursuing a PhD in Applied Linguistics at the University of Mannheim's Faculty of Philosophy. Her work focuses on digital everyday life, particularly exploring how older adults interact with new technologies and mundane devices through a conversation analysis lens.
Education: M.Sc. in Applied Linguistics (2021, University of Münster); B.A. in German Studies and Protestant Theology (2018, University of Münster). Key projects include the DigiLife initiative examining technology use among elderly populations and organizing the GAL Research School on interaction research methodologies.
Research interests span conversation analysis, multimodal interaction, and human-computer interaction. Notable talks include presentations at the Society for Applied Linguistics conference (2024 Dresden) and the International Pragmatics Conference (2023 Brussels). Her funded research includes a 2025 research stay at Loughborough University under the Women Go Abroad program.
