Helen Tempest, PhD is the Associate Dean for Foundational Education and Professor at Roseman College of Medicine. She holds a PhD in Genetics and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Brunel University. Her primary role involves developing and managing the integrated foundational curriculum for the MD program, leveraging over 12 years of experience in medical education leadership, curriculum design, and teaching.
Dr. Tempest's research focuses on e-learning methodologies, written assessment strategies, and the genetic basis of infertility. She has authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications and developed e-learning modules for organizations like the American Society of Reproductive Medicine. Her work has been supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Defense.
She serves on editorial boards for Systems Biology in Reproductive Medicine and Journal of Assisted Reproduction and Genetics, and has held leadership roles in societies like the International Chromosome and Genome Society. Notable awards include the BritWeek Innovation in Academia Award and the Rosenwak New Investigator Award.
Her contributions extend to community service through the Roseman College of Medicine’s EMPOWERED Program. Dr. Tempest’s research spans genetic disorders, preimplantation genetic testing, and the 3D organization of chromosomes in sperm nuclei, with implications for fertility and embryonic development.
