Dr Helen Sisson is a Senior Lecturer in Children's Nursing at City St George's, University of London, with dual affiliation to the University of Hull. She is an NMC Registered Nurse (Child) and Specialist Community Public Health Nurse with formal teaching qualifications recognized by the NMC. Dr Sisson began her academic career in 2010 after working as a Paediatric Research Nurse conducting clinical vaccine trials, and has since taught across various health programs at multiple educational levels.
Her educational background includes:

- MSc in Public Health from Oxford Brookes University (2007-2010)
- BA (Hons) in Specialist Community Public Health Nursing from Oxford Brookes University (2003-2004)

Dr Sisson's research program centers on vaccine uptake and attitudes across diverse populations, with particular emphasis on children, preterm infants, and pregnant women. Her scholarship examines complex factors influencing vaccination decisions, timeliness of immunization schedules, and effective communication strategies. She has published extensively on vaccine-related topics, bridging clinical practice and public health with growing attention to supporting early career nurse researchers. Her work demonstrates methodological expertise in systematic reviews, integrative reviews, and qualitative approaches.
Dr Sisson has been recognized with a Senior Fellowship from Advance HE for her excellence in teaching and learning support within higher education. Her contributions to academic discourse extend through her editorial work and research ethics service.
As an active member of the academic community, Dr Sisson serves as Associate Editor for Evidence Based Nursing (since July 2024) and sits on the editorial board of the same journal. She is also an Expert Member of the Yorkshire & Humber, Leeds West Research Ethics Committee (since January 2022). Her teaching responsibilities include serving as module lead for BSc Nursing 2nd and 3rd year research modules.
Her clinical background as a Paediatric Research Nurse conducting vaccine trials directly informs her scholarly work on immunization practices. This practical experience combined with her academic expertise positions her as a valuable contributor to both nursing education and public health discourse on vaccination.
