Helen Roostma is a Junior Research Fellow (0.50 FTE) at the University of Tartu's Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Institute of Foreign Languages and Cultures, since September 2023. She is also a PhD candidate under the supervision of Raili Marling, focusing on affective hauntings in horror narratives from the 1950s to the 2000s.

Roostma specializes in narratological analysis of transmedia storytelling and affective dimensions in horror narratives. Her research bridges philology, literary theory, and cultural studies, with a focus on 20th-21st century media. Her Master's thesis examined transtextuality in the Batman franchise through the lens of Gotham, while her current PhD research explores emotional specters in horror narratives across decades.
Her academic work intersects with fields like film and media studies, popular culture analysis, and interdisciplinary approaches to literary and cinematic texts. She has been affiliated with the University of Tartu's College of Foreign Languages and Cultures throughout her academic journey.
