Helen Pryce is a Reader (Associate Professor) in Audiology at Aston University, affiliated with the Applied Health Research Group and Aston Research Centre for Health in Ageing within the College of Health and Life Sciences. She holds roles as Programme Director for Hearing Therapy postgraduate programmes and oversees the Doctor of Hearing Therapy Professional Doctorate. Her research focuses on psychosocial influences of hearing conditions, institutional service delivery, and shared decision-making in audiology.
Education: PhD in King-Kopetzky syndrome (University of Bath), MSc Evidence-Based Healthcare (University of Oxford), and BA Humanities (University of the West of England). Professional memberships include the British Academy of Audiology and British Society of Audiology, with academic partnerships with IDA Institute (Denmark).
Research interests span chronic hearing conditions' psychosocial impacts, decision aids for hearing care, and service improvements in residential care settings. Notable contributions include developing patient-reported experience measures (e.g., My Hearing PREM©) and decision aids for hearing and tinnitus care.
Recent publications emphasize patient/public involvement in audiology research, pediatric cochlear implant assessment processes, and hearing loss burden analysis. Awards include the Thomas Simm Littler Award (2019) and Joss Millar Shield (2013).
Supervision focuses on social isolation-hearing loss-dementia links and pediatric otitis media impacts. She has held external roles as a NIHR panel member, visiting fellow at University of Manchester and University College Cork, and hearing therapy consultant across multiple institutions.
