Dr. Piers Dawes is an Honorary Professor at the University of Manchester's Division of Psychology, Communication and Human Neuroscience. His research examines cognitive aspects of hearing across the lifespan, including hearing loss epidemiology, auditory processing disorders, and dementia connections.
His current projects include the Horizon 2020-funded 'SENSE-Cog Project' improving mental wellbeing for elderly Europeans with sensory impairment, and industry-supported studies on hearing aid effectiveness. As Lecturer in the Audiology and Deafness Research Group, he supervises doctoral candidates investigating hearing health inequalities and listening effort mechanisms.
Professor Dawes serves as Trustee of the British Society of Audiology and chairs their Special Interest Group for Cognition in Hearing. His editorial contributions include board membership for the Journal of Audiology & Otology. Recognized with the Thomas Simm Littler Prize (2014) for hearing loss epidemiology research, he maintains extensive collaborations with leading institutions including Cincinnati Children's Hospital and Harvard Medical School.
