Helen Nesadurai is a Professor of International Political Economy at Monash University Malaysia, affiliated with the School of Arts and Social Sciences. She has held leadership roles including Director of Global Engagement (2023-present) and Head of School (2018-2020).
- Education: PhD in Politics and International Studies (University of Warwick), MSc in Economics for Development (University of Oxford), MSc (Biochemistry, University of Malaya), BSc Hons (Biochemistry, University of Malaya).
Her research focuses on the intersection of global, regional, and national governance frameworks in Southeast Asia and the Asia-Pacific, particularly examining how these layers influence development, rights, and sustainability. She has contributed to studies on zero-deforestation norms, transnational private regulation, and land conflicts in the region.
Recent research outputs include analyses of economic statecraft and geoeconomics in the Asia-Pacific, ethical remaking of global supply chains, and developmental regionalism in Southeast Asia.
- Scientific Awards: Multiple commendations for teaching excellence (2009, 2012, 2014, 2022) and the Global Groupwork Education Grant (2022-2024).
Helen has supervised research projects on transnational governance and land conflicts, secured funding from the Asian Development Bank and Sasakawa Peace Foundation, and served on editorial boards and advisory committees for institutions like UNU-CRIS and the Better Governance and Policy research area at Monash University.
