Dr. Darren Lim is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Politics & International Relations at the Australian National University (ANU). His research focuses on the intersection of international political economy, security, and global governance, with particular expertise in geoeconomics, economic security, Sino-US technology competition, and Indo-Pacific regional dynamics. He holds a PhD from Princeton University and has previously worked as a corporate lawyer and researcher at the International Crisis Group.
Lim’s research interests include economic coercion, technology standards, and the future of the rules-based order. He has published extensively on topics such as China’s institutional statecraft, Australia’s foreign policy, and the strategic challenges posed by great power competition. His work emphasizes the need for states to balance economic interdependence with strategic resilience, particularly in the Indo-Pacific region.
He hosts Australia in the World, a podcast analyzing international affairs through an Australian perspective. Current research explores economic security agendas, supply chain resilience, and decoupling strategies. Lim has collaborated on projects like the Geoeconomics of Critical Technology Standards in Southeast Asia and Navigating the Emerging Geo-Economic Order, addressing technology policy, security, and collective defense.
Lim is not currently accepting PhD students for 2024–2026, though Australian public servants may inquire about the Sir Roland Wilson Fellowship. His academic credentials include a PhD and MPA from Princeton, alongside dual degrees in Economics and Law from Monash University.
