Juliet Lu is an Assistant Professor at the University of British Columbia, jointly affiliated with the Department of Forest Resources Management (Faculty of Forestry) and the School of Public Policy and Global Affairs. Her research focuses on political ecology, transnational land investments, and environmental governance, particularly examining China's resource investments in Southeast Asia.
Lu's work explores conflicts over land use, the impacts of Chinese rubber plantations in Laos, and the rise of global sustainable governance initiatives. Her recent publications highlight topics such as the cooperation-infrastructure nexus in Laos, failed land investment projects, and China's green soft power.
She leads the Sustainable China Lab, conducts fieldwork in China, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, and British Columbia, and contributes to interdisciplinary research on tropical deforestation, crop booms, and socio-ecological transitions.
