Professor Helen McGregor is a paleoclimatologist at the University of Wollongong's School of Earth, Atmospheric and Life Sciences (SEALS). Her research focuses on understanding climate change, El Niño-Southern Oscillation dynamics, and human-environment interactions through the lens of past climate records. She leads projects such as the PAGES 2k Network and investigates climate impacts on the Great Barrier Reef.
Research interests include global climate variability, ocean-atmosphere interactions, and coral reef paleoecology. Her work integrates proxy data (e.g., coral records) with climate models to address climate change challenges. Notable grants include ARC Discovery and Future Fellowships exploring Great Barrier Reef responses to environmental changes and El Niño dynamics.
Professor McGregor collaborates on initiatives like the 'Securing Antarctica's Environmental Future' and art-science projects to enhance climate communication. She supervises PhD/Master’s students on topics such as coral geochemistry, climate extremes, and ocean temperature reconstructions.
