Helen Mason

Helen Mason is a Professor of Health Economics at Glasgow Caledonian University, leading the Economics of Health and Wellbeing theme in the Yunus Centre for Social Business and Health. She holds roles in academic leadership, including Vice President of the International Society for the Scientific Study of Subjectivity, and contributes to policy committees such as the Scottish Government's Health Improvement Research Committee. Her research focuses on methodologies for valuing healthcare interventions, including Q methodology and contingent valuation, with expertise in cost-effectiveness analysis and public health policy. She has supervised numerous clinical trials and methodological studies funded by organizations like the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), Medical Research Council (MRC), and Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).

Education: PhD in Health Economics from Newcastle University (2007).

Research interests include healthcare priority setting, societal values in resource allocation, and the economic evaluation of treatments for chronic conditions like pelvic organ prolapse and rheumatoid arthritis. She has pioneered studies on end-of-life care for dementia patients and public preferences for life-extending treatments. Over 90 peer-reviewed publications and 16 active research projects reflect her contributions to healthcare economics and policy.
