معرفی
Helen M. Werner is an Assistant Professor of Biology at Beloit College, specializing in bioarchaeology, physiology, and molecular biology. She holds a PhD in Anthropology from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (2019) and a BS in Biology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (2008). Her research focuses on human osteology, paleopathology, and infectious disease dynamics in historical populations. She investigates skeletal evidence of respiratory infections and how social marginalization influences disease patterns.
Teaching areas include human biology, anatomy/physiology, biometrics, and histology/pathology. She emphasizes research skills and curiosity-driven learning, often involving students in her interdisciplinary studies. Notable projects include analyses of skeletal remains from Milwaukee County Poor Farm Cemetery and molecular identification of tuberculosis in archaeological contexts.
Publications span bioarchaeological studies, skeletal morphology research, and molecular pathology investigations. Her work integrates osteological analysis with molecular techniques to understand ancient diseases and modern clinical applications. She runs The Marigold Foundation, supporting families affected by pregnancy/infant loss while maintaining a passion for science communication through writing and community engagement.
